TALLINN. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Opposition parties in Estonia have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Kaja Kallas over her husband's business relations with Russia.
"Kaja Kallas needs to resign immediately and to stop accusing other people of serving Russia's interests. It turns out that she is to blame for it herself," Mart Helme, deputy head of Estonia's opposition Conservative People's Party, told reporters.
ERR reported on Wednesday the Stark Logistics transport company, partially owned by Kallas's husband Arvo Hallik, continued business with Russia during the special operation in Ukraine, despite the government's criticism of companies with interests in Russia.
"The case is so scandalous that the Estonian media cannot take a neutral and waiting position, citing the presumption of innocence," Helme said.
The leaders of other parties, including politicians from the coalition, are already having consultations on what position to take regarding Kallas, and the parliamentary anti-corruption commission will definitely tackle this issue in September, involving competent lawyers, he said.
Tanel Kiik , chairman of the parliamentary Center Party, said Kallas was one of the most active supporters of tougher sanctions against Russia, both in Estonia and in the European Union, but it now turns out the company involving her husband is still transporting goods to Russia, rus.postimees reported.
