Western nations will not unfreeze Russian assets until Russia pays Ukraine compensation - White House

WASHINGTON. Aug 24 (Interfax) - The United States, Britain, Germany, Italy and France will not unfreeze Russian assets until Russia pays damages to Ukraine, national security advisors from the five countries said at a meeting in Washington on Thursday.

"National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan convened the [...] national security advisors of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom at the White House today. The national security advisors stressed that Russia's sovereign assets in their nations' jurisdictions will remain immobilized until Russia pays for the damage it has caused to Ukraine," the communique published by the White House press service following the meeting said.
