MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon visit the country's Far East, but has no plans to visit Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant that built the SJ-100 aircraft as part of an import-substitution project, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"For now, a visit to the plant is not on the president's schedule for the foreseeable future, although, as you know, Putin will indeed visit Vladivostok," Peskov told reporters.
As reported earlier, a prototype of the Russian SJ-100 short-haul aircraft from the Superjet family has performed its maiden flight.
"This is a truly great success, as new technologies have been developed and new aircraft elements and systems have been produced within a fairly short time. Importantly, this is being done within a record short period. The work has not been completed yet. The aircraft will be equipped with domestic engines, and that will happen soon," Peskov said.
The president "is perfectly aware of the details of the import-substitution schedule for aviation and other industries," he said.
"Producing such aircraft while taking into account the country's geography is an extremely important matter. The president will stay tuned. We can congratulate our aircraft builders on their success," Peskov said.
