MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - Russian Black Sea Fleet ships have held an air defense exercise and simulated a sea battle during maneuvers in the Black Sea, the fleet's press service said on Wednesday.
"After each ship reached its predetermined district, the crews practiced a set of measures to search for, detect, track and destroy mock enemy air attack weapons, after which artillery and air defense missiles were fired at mock enemy attacking seaborne and airborne targets," the press service said.
The practical phase of the drills allowed the crews to train at responding to sudden threats to their ships from the air and in the sea, it said.
"At the final stage of the drills, the crews performed a series of counter-sabotage training exercises, practicing different options for throwing grenades and firing a grenade launcher at underwater saboteurs based on sonar data, and fired underwater pistols and automatic weapons at floating and underwater targets," the press service said.
The drills took place as part of the Black Sea Fleet's plan for combat training in the Black Sea, it said.
