MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - The new school year in Russian regions got off to a trouble-free start, the Interior Ministry's spokesperson Irina Volk said.
"On September 1 more than 47,000 schools across the Russian Federation staged festivities to mark the beginning of the school year. Law and order was provided in full. No law violation was allowed to occur," Volk told reporters on Friday.
Public order was provided by more than 130,000 police officers, including juvenile inspectors, precinct police officers and dog experts, she said. Traffic safety police officers patrolled areas adjoining the schools.
The security effort also involved members of the National Guard, employees of private security companies and law enforcement volunteers, Volk said.
