YEREVAN. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Around 170 protesters demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have been detained in Yerevan, the Armenian police told Interfax.
"As of noon, 168 people have been detained," a police representative said.
The number of detained protesters is over 200, an opposition MP and National Committee member Ishkhan Sagatelyan said on social media earlier.
"MPs and lawyers are protecting the rights of detained citizens, whose number exceeds 200," Sagatelyan said.
The Armenian opposition began blocking streets in six out of nine administrative districts of Yerevan on Monday morning as part of a civil disobedience campaign seeking Pashinyan's resignation.
Armenian media outlets are airing the protest live. Some of the rallies are led by former and incumbent opposition members of the Armenian parliament.
The opposition National Committee said that opposition MP Tadevos Avetisyan was among the detainees.
