YEREVAN. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of the United States' support in resolving current problems at a meeting with U.S. Senator Gary Peters.
"The prime minister highly assessed [Gary] Peters' visit to Armenia in a difficult situation for the Armenian people and underscored the importance of the U.S.' support in overcoming the problems that have emerged. Nikol Pashinyan stressed the importance of the existing close cooperation with the U.S., including in the strengthening of democracy in our country, the effective implementation of reforms and in other fields," the Armenian government's press service said.
Peters, in turn, voiced concern about the dire humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and stressed the need to deliver humanitarian aid to the region, the press service said.
Peters reaffirmed his country's support for the territorial integrity of Armenia.
Pashinyan also met with Iran's new Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani, the press service said.
"Armenia and Iran should maintain active communication in this difficult period facing the region," Pashinyan said.
Sobhani, for his part, "emphasized the Iranian side's firm position regarding the protection of Armenia's territorial integrity."
