YEREVAN. Sept 27 (Interfax) - More than 53,000 local residents have been evacuated to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian government said.
"A total of 53,629 forcibly displaced persons have arrived in Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh to date," the Armenian prime minister's spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to official data, around 120,000 Armenians lived in Nagorno-Karabakh.
As reported, a humanitarian center has been set up in Kornidzor near the Lachin corridor, which connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
All residents who have nowhere to live in Armenia are being provided with accommodation by the Armenian government.
U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power announced on Tuesday more than $11.5 million in humanitarian assistance to help displaced persons arriving in Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The European Commission will provide $5 million to Armenia to help finance the needs of people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. Sweden will transfer 15 million Swedish krona (over $1.3 million) to the International Committee of the Red Cross to fund the humanitarian needs of displaced individuals. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, for her part, announced seven million euros in French assistance to Armenia.
