Russian troops improve situation in southern Donetsk sector - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - The Russian military situation along the frontline in the southern Donetsk sector has improved in the past 24 hours, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"In the southern Donetsk sector, the eastern group of troops, supported by attack and army aviation, has improved the situation along the frontline and repelled two attacks by Ukrainian assault groups near Priyutnoye, Zaporozhye region," Konashenkov told a briefing on Thursday.

"The enemy's losses amounted to up to 105 dead and injured Ukrainian soldiers, two armored fighting vehicles, and five automobiles," he said.

"Furthermore, to the north of Priyutnoye, Zaporozhye region, a sabotage-reconnaissance group of the 110th territorial-defense brigade was destroyed," Konashenkov said.

In the Donetsk sector, the southern group of troops, supported by aviation and artillery, repelled two attacks by assault groups of the 53rd and 110th motorized-infantry brigades near Pervomaiskoye and southwest of Veseloye (Donetsk People's Republic), he said.

"Enemy lost up to 190 dead and injured Ukrainian soldiers and 11 automobiles in the past 24 hours. A Grad MLRS [multiple launch rocket system] vehicle, a U.S.-made M777 artillery system, two D-20 howitzers and a Msta-B howitzer were destroyed by counterbattery fire," Konashenkov said.

"In the Zaporozhye sector, a Russian group, aircraft and artillery struck units of Ukraine's 65th motorized-infantry and 82nd air assault brigades near Rabotino and northwest of Verbovoye, Zaporozhye region," he said.

"Over 45 Ukrainian troops, a U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, two armored fighting vehicles and three automobiles were destroyed," he said.

"Furthermore, a D-30, a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery weapon and a U.S.-made M119 howitzer were destroyed by counterbattery fire," Konashenkov said.

In the Krasny Liman sector, the central group of troops, army aviation and artillery repelled an attack by an assault group of Ukraine's 63rd motorized-infantry brigade near Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People's Republic), he said. Also, suppressive fire was inflicted on units of the 21st and 63rd motorized-infantry brigades near Torskoye and Yampolovka (DPR), Konashenkov said.

"In that sector, enemy lost up to 60 Ukrainian soldiers, two armored fighting vehicles and two D-30 howitzers in the past 24 hours," he said.

In the Kupyansk sector, the western group of troops, aviation and artillery struck troops and equipment of Ukraine's 14th and 32nd motorized-infantry and 25th airborne brigade near Zagoruikovka, and Timkovka (Kharkov region) and Stelmakhovka (LPR), destroying up to 50 troops and two automobiles, he said.

"Furthermore, a U.S.-made M777 artillery system, a U.S.-made M109 Paladin self-propelled artillery weapon, an Msta-B howitzer and Gvozdika sell-propelled artillery weapon were destroyed by counterbattery fire. Near Ogurtsovo, Kharkov region, an ammunition depot of the Ukrainian army's 1st special-forces brigade was destroyed," he said.

In the Kherson sector, up to 20 Ukrainian soldiers, two automobiles and a D-30 howitzer were destroyed by suppressive fire in the past 24 hours, Konashenkov said.
