YEREVAN. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan went to St. Petersburg on Monday on a two-day working visit.
"While in St. Petersburg, the Armenian prime minister will attend a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on December 25 and an informal meeting of the CIS leaders on December 26," the Armenian government press service said.
Armenian representatives have lately been refusing to attend events of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
In late November, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said Armenia should attend a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in St. Petersburg in December, as it will taking over the EAEU presidency. He said, however, that a decision on Pashinyan's participation in the event was yet to be made.
The Kremlin said back then that Russian President Vladimir Putin might meet with Pashinyan at the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg in late December.
"If Mr. Pashinyan goes there, and he is expected, as everyone else, that will be a perfect opportunity to talk," Peskov said on November 29 in response to a question on whether the two leaders might communicate.
