Counterterrorism operation begins in Belarusian region bordering Ukraine

MINSK. Feb 15 (Interfax) - A counterterrorism operation has begun in the Lelchitsky district of Belarus' Gomel region bordering Ukraine, the Lelchitsky District Executive Committee said on Telegram on Thursday, citing the Belarusian State Security Committee branch in the Gomel region.

"A counterterrorism operation has begun in the Lelchitsky district of the Gomel region," the local administration said.

"We ask the district population to stay calm and obey orders of law enforcement officers," it said.

Reasons for the beginning of the counterterrorism operation have not been announced.
