New Zealand announces new aid package of nearly $16 mln for Ukraine - Foreign Ministry

WASHINGTON. Feb 22 (Interfax) - New Zealand has announced a new aid package of 25.9 million New Zealand dollars (15.9 million U.S. dollars) for Ukraine.

"This support, worth $25.9 million [New Zealand dollars], will bring the total value of New Zealand's assistance pledged in the past two years to more than $100 million," New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Defense Minister Judith Collins said in a statement published on the government's website.

The new package includes around $4 million for the United Kingdom-administered International Fund for Ukraine to procure weapons and ammunition for Kiev, $4.3 million in humanitarian assistance, and $1.8 million for the World Bank's Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform Trust Fund, the statement said.

In addition, the presence of New Zealand Defense Forces personnel in Europe and the UK will be extended until June 2025, the ministers said.

"Up to 97 New Zealand Defense Forces personnel will continue to train Ukrainian soldiers, and provide intelligence, liaison and logistics support," Collins said.

New restrictive measures under the Russia Sanctions Act 2022, aimed at countering sanctions evasion, are also being prepared, the statement said.
