MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree approving the country's new military-administrative division.
The decree is available for viewing on the legal information website.
This document also invalidates the president's decree "On Military-Administrative Division of the Russian Federation", dated June 5, 2020.
Under the new decree, due to take effect on March 1, 2024, the Zaporozhye region, the Kherson region, the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the city of Sevastopol are part of the Southern Military District.
In accordance with the presidential decree, Russia's military-administrative division is as follows:
The Leningrad Military District comprises the area within the administrative borders of Karelia, Komi, the Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod and Pskov regions, St. Petersburg, and the Nenets Autonomous District.
The Moscow Military District consists of the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tula and Yaroslavl regions, and the city of Moscow.
The Southern Military District comprises Adygea, Dagestan, the Donetsk People's Republic, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Karachayevo-Cherkessia, Crimea, the Lugansk People's Republic, North Ossetia, Chechnya, the Krasnodar Territory, the Stavropol Territory, the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Zaporozhye, Rostov and Kherson regions, and the city of Sevastopol.
The Central Military District consist of the Republic of Altai, Bashkortostan, Mari El, Mordovia, Tatarstan, Tuva, Udmurtia, Khakasia, Chuvashia, the Altai Territory, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Perm Territory, the Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Orenburg, Penza, Samara, Saratov, Sverdlovsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.
The Eastern Military District is located within the administrative borders of Buryatia, Yakutia, the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Kamchatka Territory, the Primorye Territory, the Khabarovsk Territory, the Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin regions, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and the Chukotka Autonomous District.
