U.S. enhancing its nuclear potential in Europe - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The United States is adopting new systems for the delivery of nuclear weapons, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"At present, radiation, chemical and biological threats are provoked by actions of Washington, which is enhancing its nuclear potential in the territory of European countries and is adopting new systems for the delivery of nuclear weapons," Shoigu said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry's board on Tuesday.

"The United States has created a network of biological laboratories to study properties of region-specific pathogens capable of being transmitted to humans and causing pandemics. Out of 330 facilities of the kind, about 40 are located in Ukraine," he said.

In this context, the role of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces increases year upon year, Shoigu said.

"The Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces have special missions amid the special military operation. In particular, they monitor radiation levels at the Zaporozhye NPP," he said.

"They prevented the threat of biological contamination in July 2023, after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam. Over 1,500 facilities were decontaminated on an area of 340,000 square meters, which helped minimize material and financial damage," Shoigu said.
