MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - A court in Simferopol has placed a Ukrainian citizen under arrest for gathering information about the Russian National Guard to coordinate missile strikes, the public relations center for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday.
"The investigation revealed that the Ukrainian citizen was tasked by his handler from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate with gathering information about the bases and routes of units of the Russian National Guard within the special military operation area," it said.
The information was meant for missile and artillery strikes on the Russian National Guard's personnel and hardware, it said.
"The information about routes of deployment of Russian servicemen and types of weapons and hardware used in the special military operation was passed over to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate via an online messenger," the center said.
The investigative department of the FSB branch in Crimea and Sevastopol opened a criminal case against the detainee on counts of gathering and sharing information on orders from a foreign intelligence service to the detriment of Russia, namely, of espionage.
"The Kievsky District Court in Simferopol placed the defendant under two-month arrest," the center said, adding that the offense was punishable with up to 20 years in prison.
