VLADIVOSTOK. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet's Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate has practiced countering pirates in the Arabian Sea as part of a long-range voyage, the fleet press service said on Wednesday.
At the initial stage of the exercise, the frigate detected a suspicious coaster not responding to its radio calls. The ship deployed an inspection team to the coaster. The mock enemy's crew tried to resist but was detained.
At the second stage, the frigate practiced artillery fire to destroy small-sized speedboats used by armed people attempting to attack and seize a foreign commercial ship.
The third stage featured an air patrol of the area by a Kamov Ka-27PS helicopter of the fleet's marine aviation.
The Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate continues to fulfill missions in the Arabian Sea.
