MOSCOW. Feb 29 (Interfax) - The recent statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron prove that incumbent European politicians lack a proper understanding of the word "security," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Unfortunately, they are starting to discuss [such] issues as the direct deployment of military contingents to Ukraine, which might do irreparable damage to security and stability on the continent and have irremediable consequences. Obviously, the very occurrence of such discussions shows that the current generation of European politicians seems to lack a proper understanding of the word 'security' and a proper instinct for self-preservation, which is fraught with unpredictability and absurd actions. Of course, this forces us to be on our guard," Peskov said on Channel One.
Journalists asked Peskov to comment on Macron's statement ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's address to the Federal Assembly. Macron said in recent days that the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine should not be ruled out, although Western countries have not reached a consensus on this issue for now.
