YEREVAN. March 1 (Interfax) - The political team of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party is concerned about the presence of officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)'s Border Forces at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport, secretary of the ruling Civil Contract party's parliamentary faction Artur Hovhannisyan said.
"Yes, we are concerned about this issue, same as the majority of our public. The item is on the agenda of our political team," Hovhannisyan said at a press briefing on Friday in response to a question on the presence of Russian border guards at the Zvartnots Airport.
The issue "is being discussed," respective decisions will be made, and an official announcement will follow, he said.
Hovhannisyan refused to go into detail and did not answer a question on whether discussions with the Russian side are underway.
Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said at a press briefing in February that the Russian FSB's Border Forces should cease operation at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport.
"I think it would be right if they [Russian border guards] leave," he said.
Simonyan said then that Armenia is able to control and protect its borders. "We will protect the borders of our country ourselves. I am not sure they [Russian border guards] will protect our borders," he said.
