Russia will not use nuclear weapons unless there is existential threat - Peskov (Part 2)

SIRIUS FEDERAL TERRITORY. March 6 (Interfax) - The West's reflections on the possibility of a nuclear war are irresponsible and dangerous, as they make the topic routine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"All talk of a nuclear war, which we are hearing plenty of from the West, European capitals and the United States, is highly irresponsible and extremely dangerous, because it makes the topic routine. This is very dangerous," Peskov told participants of the Knowledge.First Enlightenment Marathon within the World Youth Festival.

"A nuclear war is the ultimate, farewell method," he said.

As to whether Russia might resort to nuclear weapons, Peskov reminded the audience about Russian doctrine.

"Nuclear weapons [will be used] in case of an existential threat to our country. This is impossible in any other case," Peskov said.

He regretted that former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had passed away.

"If people like Kissinger had an influence on the authorities or were in office in North America and in European capitals, everything would have been different. There would have been much more rationality, much more political will for dialogue," Peskov said.
