U.S., following talks with Pashinyan, says is ready to help Armenia with energy diversification

BRUSSELS. April 5 (Interfax) - The U.S. administration is working with Armenia to support it in energy diversification, the European Union, the United States and Armenia said in a joint statement published on Friday.

"The United States is committed to Armenia's safe, reliable, and secure energy future and is working to support energy diversification," the statement, released after the talks between the leaderships of the EU, the United States and Armenia, said.

The statement also said the U.S. is ready to work to "explore the feasibility of new civil nuclear power options that prioritize the highest nuclear security, safety, and nonproliferation standards."

"The EU and the U.S. intend to provide further assistance to help the country mitigate risks, diversify its trade, and strengthen its economic and institutional resilience," the statement said.

The statement also said the EU and the U.S. recognize Armenia's considerable successes in the fight against corruption and "democratic and justice reform."

"The European Union and the United States [...] expressed a commitment to continue partnering with and supporting Armenia as it further strengthens its democracy and the rule of law, in line with our shared values and principles," the statement said.

Talks between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Samantha Power, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), took place in Brussels earlier on Friday.
