Putin: U.S. taking energetic steps seeking journalist Gershkovich's release, but such issues not resolved through press

ST. PETERSBURG. June 5 (Interfax) - The United States is taking energetic steps to secure The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich's release, but such issues must be resolved only on the reciprocity basis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"I know that the U.S. administration is indeed taking energetic steps seeking his release. It is true. But such issues are not resolved through the media. They prefer this quiet, calm and professional approach and a dialogue between security services," Putin said during the meeting with heads of the world's leading news agencies.

"And of course, they must be resolved only on the reciprocity basis. Relevant services of the U.S. and Russia are in contact with each other about this matter," Putin said.
