Putin: U.S.-Ukrainian security agreement is null and void, as incumbent Ukrainian administration had no power to sign it

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - The U.S.-Ukrainian security agreement is null and void, as the incumbent Ukrainian administration had no power to sign it, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

"Now there is a similar document that was signed with the United States on May 21 this year. There is a lawful question about the authority and legitimacy of Ukrainian representatives that sign such documents. We do not care, let them sign whatever they want," Putin said at a meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry's leadership.

"Clearly, there are political and propaganda perspectives to the situation. The United States and its satellites wish to somehow support their proteges and give them legitimacy. Nevertheless, if the United States makes a legal analysis of the agreement at some point, and I am talking about its legal aspect rather than the essence, the question of who signed those documents and what powers they had would definitely arise. I think the whole thing is a bluff. This document is null and void, and the entire structure will tumble down," Putin said.
