Brazil extradites Russian citizen on int'l wanted list

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Brazil has extradited a Russian citizen wanted for fraud, Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said on Friday.

"Veronika Lebedeva has been extradited from Brazil with an escort of officers from the Russian Interior Ministry's Interpol National Central Bureau and the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service. She is charged with fraud in Russia," Volk said.

In 2017-2018, Lebedeva conspired with Denis Asfandyarov to sign contracts with two construction companies for the delivery of building and finishing materials in exchange for ownership of 29 apartments in a residential building under construction in Kazan, investigators said. The defendants did not fulfill the contractual obligations, causing over 67-million-ruble damage.

Lebedeva was put on the international wanted list in September 2020 at the request of the Tatarstan Interior Ministry.

"At the request of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the wanted woman was handed over to Russian law enforcement officers at the Sao Paolo airport for being transported to Moscow," Volk said.
