Cuban Navy commander arrives in St. Petersburg for Russian Navy Day

ST. PETERSBURG. July 25 (Interfax) - A Cuban delegation has arrived in St. Petersburg to take part in Navy Day celebrations, the city's foreign relations committee said on its Telegram channel.

"A delegation of the Republic of Cuba has arrived in St. Petersburg for Navy Day. First deputy chairman of the [St. Petersburg foreign relations] committee Sergei Markov greeted the guests led by Cuban Navy Commander Luis Reies Lopez," it said.

"It is a great honor for us to participate in this event. This is an enormous event [...] And this is a good moment to strengthen relations between our peoples. We aspire for a multipolar world order," the Cuban Navy commander was quoted by the statement as saying.

As reported, the Chinese Navy's Jiaozuo destroyer arrived in St. Petersburg on Tuesday, July 23.

A Russian Northern Fleet unit consisting of the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, the Kazan nuclear-powered submarine, the Akademic Pashin medium-sized sea tanker and the Nikolai Chiker rescue tug made a port call in Cuba in June 2024.

A Navy Day parade will take place in St. Petersburg on July 28. The tradition of holding naval parades in St. Petersburg on Russian Navy Day was reinstated by the president's decree in 2017.
