Authorities urging residents of Belovo district in Russian Kursk region to evacuate

KURSK. Aug 12 (Interfax) - Nikolai Volobuyev, head of the Belovo district administration in the Kursk region, has urged locals to evacuate amid the tense situation.

"The situation has been extremely tense. Those who can should come to an assembly point in the village of Dolgiye Budy at the village council, or to the town of Bushmeno in the Oboyan district on their own. Buses will be provided. We urge all residents left on this territory to leave the district," Volobuyev said on Telegram on Monday.

On Sunday, acting governor of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov said a Ukrainian reconnaissance and sabotage group penetrated the Belovo district on Saturday yet the situation stabilized since then.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday it had prevented an attempted Ukrainian incursion into the Belovo district.
