Kiev may have 'dirty bomb' - Russian Radiation, Chemical, Biological Protection Forces commander

MOSCOW. Aug 13 (Interfax) - Kiev may have "a dirty bomb," Commander of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces Igor Kirillov said in an interview with the Zvezda television channel.

"A dirty bomb. We will disclose no secret: it is not so hard to make. I think they have it," Kirillov said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in June that spent nuclear fuel and hazardous chemical production waste were being brought to Ukraine and could be used to make "a dirty bomb."

"Current information indicates that radioactive chemicals are being brought to Ukraine for scrapping, which turns the country into a dump for spent nuclear fuel and hazardous chemical waste," Kirillov said at the time.

"Such substances could be used to make a so-called 'dirty bomb' to be used 'under a foreign flag'," he said.
