Amur corvette joins Russian Navy

KASPIYSK. Aug 26 (Interfax) - The Russian Navy has commissioned the Amur corvette of Project 22800 at a ceremony in Kaspiysk, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

"From now on, another ship starts defending the national interests of our great fatherland. Karakurt-class corvettes, designed by engineers of the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, embody the power of attack weapons and high navigation qualities. They will make a weighty contribution to strengthening combat preparedness as part of the Navy's surface force," Russian Navy Commander Adm. Alexander Moiseyev said at the ceremony.

The program of supplying ships armed with precision-guided weapons to the Navy will continue, Moiseyev said. For that purpose, Russian shipyards, including the Ak Bars corporation, are fulfilling state defense orders "through the serial construction of reliable, maneuverable ships with high firepower and the capacity to carry out their missions as part of a group and individually," he said.

The ceremony took place during Moiseyev's working trip to the Caspian Flotilla, the statement said.
