Russian Northern Fleet ships strike mock enemy in Barents Sea during Ocean 2024 exercise

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - Northern Fleet ships struck a mock enemy in the Barents Sea as part of the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The Northern Fleet's strike group comprising the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser and the Admiral Golovko frigate has practiced an artillery engagement of a mock enemy's surface ship," the ministry said.

"Additionally, the Northern Fleet sailors mastered their skills in hitting coastal targets on the Sredny Peninsula," it said.

"Missile and artillery crews practiced various kinds of artillery strikes on visible and defiladed coastal targets simulating firing positions, command posts and strongholds of the mock enemy," the ministry said.

The Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise is taking place in the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, the Caspian Sea and the Baltic Sea on September 10-16.

It involves over 400 ships, submarines and supply vessels, more than 120 planes and helicopters of marine aviation and the Aerospace Forces, about 7,000 pieces of weapons and military and special hardware, and over 90,000 troops.
