Two Russian nuclear submarines complete redeployment to Kamchatka base across Artic Ocean

VILYUCHINSK, Kamchatka Territory. Sept 25 (Interfax) - The Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk nuclear submarines have completed redeployment from the Northern Fleet's location to the Pacific Fleet base in Vilyuchinsk, Kamchatka, across the Arctic Ocean, and have been greeted by Russian Navy Commander Alexander Moiseyev and Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Fradkov among other members of the welcome party.

As the submarines moored and the crews lined up, Fradkov and Moiseyev welcomed the submariners and congratulated them on completing the Arctic voyage.

"The newest nuclear submarines arrived at the Pacific Fleet's main base today, having carried out a challenging redeployment under the Arctic ice. They have no equals in their class and will continue their military service as part of the Pacific Fleet's submarine force to provide strategic deterrence and to maintain and enhance Russia's combat potential and military might," Fradkov said.

The new nuclear submarines, which have significantly increased the combat potential of respective units of the Pacific Fleet, were brought to combat readiness and prepared for carrying out their missions, including those under difficult Arctic conditions, in due time, Moiseyev said.

According to official information, the Emperor Alexander III nuclear submarine is the third serial submarine of Project Borei-A. The fourth-generation submarine's keel was laid on December 18, 2015, and the submarine was launched on December 29, 2022. It carries modern missile and torpedo weapons and navigation, radio-technical and sonar systems, and boasts high maneuverability and a low noise signature.

According to official data, the Krasnoyarsk is the second multirole submarine of Project Yasen-M. The fourth-generation submarine's keel was laid on July 27, 2014, and the submarine was launched on July 30, 2021.

Official reports said that both submarines are armed with Oniks and/or Kalibr missiles (developed by Almaz-Antei's Novator Design Bureau). Plans to arm them with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles were also reported.
