BRUSSELS. Oct 1 (Interfax) - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who took office on Tuesday, said he sees no threats in light of Russia's changes to its nuclear doctrine.
"Let me make absolutely clear, we do not see any imminent threat of nuclear weapons being used," Rutte said at his first press conference as the alliance's secretary general at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
He said the NATO allies do not need to discuss Russia's nuclear arsenal. "We should acknowledge the fact that, clearly, there is no imminent threat of nuclear weapons being used," Rutte said.
Rutte took over the office from the organization's former secretary general Jens Stoltenberg in a ceremony at the NATO headquarters.
