Russian Baltic Fleet's Smolny training ship completes long-distance sea voyage

MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Russia's Smolny training ship has concluded a long-distance sea voyage that began on June 27, the Baltic Fleet's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The Baltic Fleet's Smolny training ship has wrapped up a long-distance sea voyage, during which cadets of naval universities gained a lot of experience and familiarized themselves with the culture and traditions of various countries during navigational practice," the statement said.

The Smolny called at a number of ports during the voyage, including Cuba's Havana, Venezuela's La Guaira, South Africa's Cape Town, Namibia's Wolfish Bay, Angola's Luanda, Cameroon's Douala, and Benin's Cotonou, it said.

"Each of these visits was an important stage in reinforcing naval cooperation, international ties and sharing experience between naval sailors," it said.

The Smolny was on a long-distance sea mission as part of the maritime practice of students from the Russian Defense Ministry's universities. The future naval officers carried out a training program on board the ship, in particular, exercises involving communications and ship navigation.
