Russia, Iran to enhance defense cooperation - Lavrov

MINSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The Russian-Iranian treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership will stipulate the parties' determination to have closer cooperation in defense, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

"The nascent treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Iran will become a serious factor in strengthening Russian-Iranian relations. The treaty is being prepared for signing in the near future. It will codify the parties' determination to cooperate more closely in the defense area and interact in the interests of peace and security at the regional and global level," Lavrov said at the Second Minsk International Conference in Eurasian Security.
