Russian forces prevent attempted Ukrainian incursion in Kursk area - Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Units from the northern group of forces have prevented a Ukrainian incursion across the Russian border towards Novy Put in the Kursk sector, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"An attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through the state border of the Russian Federation towards Novy Put has been thwarted. The enemy lost about ten troops killed and wounded," the ministry said.

The group repelled four Ukrainian counterattacks towards Daryino, Novoivanovka and Plyokhovo, the ministry said.

As a result of counterattacks, the Ukrainian army lost up to 30 troops killed and wounded, two armored combat vehicles and two trucks, it said.

"Units from the northern group of forces continued their offensive," the ministry said.

Units on the offensive hit detachments of ten Ukrainian brigades near Daryino, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka and Plyokhovo, it said.

Army aviation and artillery hit concentrations of troops and hardware of 14 Ukrainian brigades near Alexandria, Viktorovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Leonidovo, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Mikhailovka, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Plyokhovo, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

"Tactical aircraft and missile forces hit concentrations of troops in the Sumy region and reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st and 115th Mechanized Brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade and 129th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Basovka, Zhuravka, Loknya, Miropolye, Obody, Pavlovka and Khoten," the ministry said.
