OTS members broadening military, security cooperation - Azerbaijani president

BAKU. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Members of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) are broadening military and security cooperation, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"As threats are mounting in the world, our cooperation in defense, security and the defense sector has a large significance. Cooperation between our law enforcement agencies and security services has broadened lately," Aliyev said at the OTS summit in Bishkek on Thursday.

Troops from the OTS member states take part in military exercises, Aliyev said. The fact that Azerbaijani military schools have students from fraternal countries indicates mutual confidence and friendship, he said.

He also commented on transport cooperation between OTS member states, including the increasing traffic through the East-West transport corridor across the Azerbaijani territory.

"Transit between member states and observer states grew almost 15% in January-September 2024, compared to the respective period of 2023," Aliyev said.

A number of projects are being implemented to digitalize the Middle Corridor and to facilitate trade, Aliyev said. "These projects increase the efficiency of logistics and cut expenditures," he said.

Azerbaijan will keep working to strengthen the OTS, Aliyev said.
