Blogger Varlamov charged in criminal case with evading foreign agent duties in Russia

MOSCOW. Nov 25 (Interfax) - The Moscow prosecution service has opened a criminal case against blogger Ilya Varlamov, designated as a foreign agent, on suspicion of failing to fulfill the duties imposed by his status.

"Based on materials of the inspection conducted by the Moscow prosecution service, a criminal case has been opened against foreign agent Ilya Varlamov under Part 2, Article 330.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (evasion of duties envisaged by Russian legislation on foreign agents)," the service said.

The Russian Justice Ministry designated Varlamov as a foreign agent in 2023 for "disseminating inaccurate information about the decisions and policy of the authorities and receiving support from foreign sources."

Varlamov is a popular blogger mostly known for his travel and urban development videos.
