MINSK. Dec 18 (Interfax) - The deployment of Russia's Oreshnik intermediate-range missile systems in Belarus is not threatening anyone, as it is an element of the existing mechanism of the allies' security, State Secretary of the Russia-Belarus Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said.
"This is not a threat to anyone. This is a guarantee of security of the Union State," Mezentsev said on the air of the Zvezda television channel, a part of which was posted on the media group's website on Wednesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a logical and founded response to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's question about the deployment of Oreshnik systems in Belarus, Mezentsev said.
Deploying Oreshnik missile systems in Belarus is merely an element of security of the Union State to protect Russia and Belarus from the collective West's pressure, he said.
Putin said earlier that Oreshnik systems might be deployed in Belarus in the second half of 2025.
