MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin had a phone talk with Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East[a] (UNRWA), on the situation in the Arab-Israeli conflict zone, according to information published on the Russian Foreign Ministry website.
"The conversation participants exchanged opinions on the current situation in the Arab-Israeli conflict zone with an emphasis on the continuation and support of humanitarian operations on the occupied Palestinian territory - the Gaza Strip, the Western coast of the Jordan, and Eastern Jerusalem," the ministry said in a statement.
Besides, according to the Foreign Ministry, the talk addressed issues relating to the functioning of the UNRWA, whose mandate for provision of comprehensive assistance to Palestinians on the occupied Palestinian territory and in the neighboring Arab counties (Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria) was established by the UN General Assembly and is supported by an overwhelming majority of the member states.
