MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented in collaboration with the Russian Defense Ministry an operation of the Ukrainian military intelligence, which offered Russian troops to leave their positions in Gorlovka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) for remuneration, the FSB public relations center said in statement.
"The Federal Security Service has published materials of an operation conducted together with the Russian Defense Ministry to stop an intelligence operation of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate in the Gorlovka tactical theater of operations," it said.
Ukrainian military intelligence officers "offered Russian troops $1 million for leaving positions in Gorlovka (DPR)," the FSB said.
"The Russian FSB's military counterintelligence timely uncovered the goals of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate and launched a sting operation. An advance payment of $100,000 was accepted from Ukrainian military intelligence," it said.
The operation helped "detect concentrations of Ukrainian military units," the FSB said.
"Russian forces conducted preemptive missile and artillery strikes on the detected routes used by Ukrainian military units to approach our positions. The enemy lost a considerable number of troops and hardware," it said.
The payment "was spent on buying supplies for units participating in the special military operation," the FSB said.
It did not say when the operation was carried out.
