U.S. adds Zaporozhye NPP to sanctions list (Part 2)

WASHINGTON. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The United States Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Wednesday that it is imposing sanctions on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

The NPP is included in the updated Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) sanctions list published by the department.

Sixteen individuals have been added to the anti-Russian sanctions list, including those from Turkey and China.

New restrictions have been imposed on a number of Russian plants, including the Lytkarino Optical Glass Plant and the Novotroitsk Plant of Chromium Compounds.

The sanctions list includes the Voentorg company and the Patriot Exhibition and Convention Center.

The list also includes foreign companies, in particular, those from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China.

New restrictions were imposed in an effort to counter the circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions, the statement said.

"This action targets a sanctions evasion scheme established between actors in Russia and the People's Republic of China to facilitate cross-border payments for sensitive goods," it said.
