Poland not planning to send troops to Ukraine - defense minister

MINSK. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Poland does not support the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said in an interview with Politico.

"Poland has clearly said from the beginning that it is not considering a scenario of sending troops to Ukraine," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

Politico reminded its readers that French President Emmanuel Macron put forward the idea last year, while members of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration are promoting the concept of sending European troops to Ukraine as peacekeepers in case of a peace agreement with Russia.

Speaking of Kiev's expectations of an invitation to join NATO, Kosiniak-Kamysz said he "doubted" that such an invitation would be made, at least at the next summit of the alliance.

"Invitation [to join NATO] has to be unanimous, there are currently deep doubts among some members about admitting a country fighting a war," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

"Poland supports Ukraine being close to us, that it integrates with Europe." he said, without specifying Poland's stance on inviting Ukraine to NATO. "Poland's own integration with the West took over a decade," he said.
