Armenia's plans to join EU are sovereign right, yet Armenian people benefit from EAEU membership - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - The desire to join the European Union is a sovereign right of Armenia, but for now the Armenian people continue to benefit from membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Reporters asked Peskov on Wednesday to comment on the EU accession bill, which passed the first reading in the Armenian parliament. "This is a sovereign right of Armenia, but, clearly, the Armenians and everyone else should figure out how mutual this desire is and what the Europeans think about it," he said.

"For now, we proceed from the fact that Armenia continues to benefit from membership in the EAEU and Eurasian economic integration processes, and these benefits are more than tangible," Peskov said.
