MINSK. March 18 (Interfax) - Participants in the 63rd meeting of the joint advisory group on arms control of the Belarusian and Russian defense ministries have discussed a broad range of issues pertaining to the implementation of confidence and security building measures in the military field, including with respect to Ukraine, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said.
"The meeting participants discussed primarily aspects of transparency at the Zapad [West] 2025 exercise, particularly who should be invited both to the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and from what countries," Valery Revenko, aide to the Belarusian defense minister on international military cooperation, said on Tuesday.
"Among the matters being discussed is verification in a post-conflict period in Ukraine's territory. We found constructive approaches here as concerns the Russian Federation's and the Republic of Belarus's joint actions," Revenko said.
The participants also discussed some steps to implement confidence and security building measures under the 2011 Vienna Document, he said.
"We compared notes and views. In particular, we presented aspects of regional confidence and security building measures with our neighbors, namely the Republic of Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. We will continue working to align our positions and reduce tensions near Belarus's borders. That is, the proposals that we've made to Poland on verification activities within an 80-kilometer area remain on the table," Revenko said.
