Prosecutors ensure recovery of over 500 bln rubles from corrupt officials in 2024 - Russian prosecutor general

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - Over 160,000 corruption cases were detected in Russia last year, and illegally obtained property of corrupt officials totaling more than 500 billion rubles was impounded by the state, Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said.

"Corruption countering efforts helped detect more than 160,000 misdeeds in 2014. Most of them were about the provision of incomplete information about income, assets and proprietary obligations, and the failure to prevent or resolve a conflict of interest," Krasnov said in an annual report at the Federation Council on Wednesday.

In every case of discrepancy between expenditures and incomes of officials, as well as property purchased with funds of dubious origin, prosecutors demanded an impoundment by the state in courts, he said.

"Recovered funds totaled over 500 billion rubles. That's how rich some of our officials are," Krasnov said.

He gave the example of the head of an interregional department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, who could not prove the lawful origins of assets totaling over 480 million rubles.

"A claim for seizing those assets has been lodged with a court, and interim measures have been taken," he said.

Coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies helped increase the number of detected corruption crimes last year, Krasnov said. "The number of investigated cases of corruption conspiracies has significantly grown," he said.
