MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - A former deputy head of a department at the Russian Defense Ministry has been arrested on suspicion of stealing 240 million rubles in public funds, the Investigative Committee said in a statement on Telegram on Monday.
"A criminal case has been opened against a former deputy head of the department for the management of special projects' assets at the Russian Defense Ministry, Oleg Vasenin, who has been charged with massive embezzlement of public assets," the statement said.
In 2022, during the execution of a government defense order, the department "signed a multimillion contract with Translom for the provision of recycling services," the ministry said.
"Vasenin was in charge of monitoring the execution of the contract. In 2022-2023, Vasenin embezzled over 240 million rubles from the budget, having submitted knowingly forged documents on the cost of recyclables," the statement said.
The court granted a military investigator's motion and "ordered Vasenin to be remanded in custody," the statement said.
