Estonian police arrest offenders who desecrated Bronze Soldier monument

TALLINN. May 13 (Interfax) - The Estonian police have detained two young persons who desecrated the monument to the liberators of Tallinn from Nazi invaders, also known as the Bronze Soldier, on Saturday.

"These are teenagers," Ida-Harju police station chief Inna Touter told the Postimees newspaper.

The monument was defaced with offensive inscriptions in white paint.

It is located at the Military Cemetery. The Estonian War Museum has organized its cleaning.

This is not the first time in recent years that the Bronze Soldier has been vandalized, Vaiko Vaher, head of the Operational Bureau in the Pojha prefecture, said.

In 2007, the monument was moved from the center of Tallinn to the Military Cemetery, causing mass unrest among the Russian-speaking population and the death of Russian citizen Dmitry Ganin residing in Estonia. His killers have yet to be found.
