WASHINGTON. May 15 (Interfax) - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed his colleagues from Germany, Italy and France on Thursday of Washington's efforts to settlement the conflict in Ukraine.
Rubio told the foreign ministers of Germany, Italy and France on the sidelines of an informal meeting between the foreign ministers of the NATO states in Antalya about the "efforts to halt the [...] bloodshed in Ukraine and emphasized that European leadership is critical for getting Russia and Ukraine to negotiate in good faith for a swift and durable peace settlement," the Department of State said in a release.
Bloomberg earlier reported, citing sources, that the U.S. side had updated its proposal on Ukraine settlement, including in it the initiative to resume the work of the NATO-Russia Council.
According to the agency's information, the proposals stated by Washington earlier included, in particular, the freezing of the conflict along the entire current frontline, recognition by the United States of the Crimean Peninsula as Russian, and also the lifting of the sanctions from Russia.
Ukraine would receive security guarantees and the right to develop its own armed forces, the agency reported.
