CSTO sec gen: Potential for India-Pakistan conflict expansion persists

MOSCOW/BISHKEK. May 19 (Interfax) - India and Pakistan should use every opportunity to de-escalate their conflict, which still has an escalation potential, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said on Monday.

"A steep escalation of tensions in India-Pakistan relations, which has led to major armed clashes, causes concern. Despite the recent easing of the standoff, there is still a high potential for the conflict's shift to a hot stage. We have no doubt that both sides to the conflict and the international community should use every opportunity to de-escalate the armed confrontation and to search for peaceful ways out of this situation," Tasmagambetov said at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council in Bishkek on Monday.
