SOCHI. May 20 (Interfax) - The United States is not stepping back from its role as a mediator in the Ukraine settlement process and is interested in the Ukraine crisis being resolved as soon as possible, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"No, the U.S. is not quitting. It is interested in achieving the results as soon as possible. The U.S. president said that, and President [Vladimir] Putin shares this point of view," Peskov told journalists.
"We too are interested in settling the conflict as soon as possible by eliminating the root causes of this conflict, as Putin said today," he said.
"And this is the most important point in all drafts that will probably be worked out," Peskov said.
The U.S. "has provided very efficient mediation services," Peskov said.
