MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The development of Russia's space industry will require over 1 trillion rubles within the next three years and around 4.5 trillion rubles in the period up to 2036, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
"In aggregate, over 1 trillion rubles has to be earmarked for the next three years, and around 4.5 trillion in the period up to 2036. The scope of work ahead will require as prudent use of all of the country's available resources as possible," Mishustin said at a strategic session dealing with the development of Russia's space industry on Tuesday.
"In preparing a long-term financial model, we need to thoroughly elaborate on ways to commercialize products and services and ensure stable demand for them, which would provide preconditions for pooling the state's and the business sector's efforts and, which is very important, would help draw private investments here," he said.
All these goals require a lot of resources, he said.
"The need to dramatically slash the cost of putting payloads [into orbit] is among the key and critical challenges now. We expect nonstandard technical solutions from our designers, engineers, and academics. These could be variants of reusable systems or fundamentally different designs with innovative features that would radically change the conventional idea of options for space launches," Mishustin said.
