MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - The formation of the Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts will be completed in 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We will complete all organizational events to form units of the Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts this year," Putin said at a meeting with graduates of military colleges.
Besides, he said marine infantry brigades "will be deployed in the division, their striking power and combat capabilities will qualitatively increase," he said.
Boosting the combat capabilities of all branches and arms of the armed forces remains a relevant task, Putin said.
"Specifically, a new branch of the service, drone system forces, is being formed due to the increased role of drone aircraft in modern conflicts," the president said.
Bearing in mind the increase in geopolitical tension, Russia will continue taking "appropriate measures to strengthen the security of Russia and its allies," developing the Russian Armed Forces as a guarantee of the country's sovereign and independent development, he said.
